About the Artist

Mary Alice makes her home in Pisgah Forest, North Carolina. She is a native Floridian and a graduate of Florida State University. She taught in the Hillsborough county school system for five years. In the 1960's Mary Alice became the art consultant for the Cherry Creek School District in the Denver, Colorado area.  Mary Alice returned to Florida in 1972 and became active in the arts community. As president of the Florida Watercolor Society, she organized the first FWS conference of workshops, demos, and a trade show which continues to this day. She directed the Kanuga Watermedia Workshop for 17 years and guided its growth from 15 artist participants to over 300.  Mary Alice was invited to be the guest editor of the American Artist Magazine's special issue: Experimental Approaches to Watermedia -Watercolor 2001.

She is a creative and innovative artist who works continually on new ways to present images that evoke a sense of motion, texture and an unearthing of paints and colors. 

Her work has been included in numerous feature articles, books, public and private collections. This year she was one of the three selected jurors of the 2022 National Watercolor Society International Open Exhibition and served in selecting those receiving NWS signature status.
